Barbora Bereznakova


Barbora Bereznakova is a writer-director whose work has been recognized both nationally and internationally. She was shortlisted for the Slovak national film award in 2020 and  received the Tatrabanka Film Award and the Best Documentary Award at Cinematik in 2019.

An alumna of programs such as Berlinale Talents, IDFA, and Zurich Film Academy, Barbora has also been awarded several respected film fellowships, including the Nipkow Program and FilmKünstlerinnenprogramm from Berlin senate.

Her feature debut Never Happened premiered at the Warsaw International Film Festival in 2019, her latest short film Strigov was showcased at Krakow IFF and DocAviv in 2022 following many festivals worldwide. She is also the creative force behind the documentary and transmedia trilogy Ask at Home.

Since founding her production company Známa Firma in 2013, Barbora has been developing and producing a wide range of film and art projects with a focus on social and political impact. Her work has resonated with audiences worldwide, reaching hundreds of thousands across different platforms.

Currently, she is developing her debut fiction feature This Room Is Impossible to Eat and the comedy series Slavic Science, of which she is leading as creator. Barbora divides her time between Berlin and Bratislava, working on both artistic and commercial projects across Europe.
